MISE-EN-SCENE
Melbourne artist Bridgette McNab launches her first solo exhibition, Mise-en-scène in Sydney next month. The exhibition will feature at the Robin Gibson Gallery, Darlinghurst from the 29 April until the 24 May 2017.
The works featured in Mise-en-scène are oil portraits and still life’s inspired by the storytelling models of early European cinema auteurs Eric Rohmer and Jean Luc Goddard. McNab’s works pick up where the French New Wave left off, creating a painted, cinematic experience with a focus on colour and narrative.
Each work in the collection comprises a portrait and an accompanying still life, the pair connected through a unified palette. The title of the exhibition, Mise-en-scène, draws inspiration from the lives of female characters whose narratives shift through the environment that frames them.
